We’ve all been there— staring at that old stubborn stain every time we walk by the living room rug, or when we open our closet and see it on our favorite shirt. Old stains can be a pain to deal with, specially the longer they sit. Don’t let that stain overstay its welcome. ANC is here to tell you exactly how to get rid of those old, grimy stains.

One of our favorite solutions to use on old stains can be found right in your kitchen and medicine cabinet— 3% hydrogen peroxide, your favorite dishwashing soap (we recommend Blue Dawn), and baking soda. Simply mix one part dishwashing soap, and two parts hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle. Then, spray the formula onto the stain and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Use the baking soda to add an extra layer of scrubbing power by applying a small amount on the wet stain. Making sure you are protecting your skin with gloves, use a small cloth or sponge to scrub the stain. Watch the stain disappear as you scrub and rinse the excess formula with water. You’re done!

We like this formula because it’s safe for the environment, containing only 3% hydrogen peroxide as opposed to stronger formulas. The combination of the dishwashing soap and baking soda turn it into a powerful but gentle solution to get stains out.

If you already washed your item or tried other unsuccessful cleaning formulas, we’ve got your back. Another effective solution is using hot water. That’s right, applying your favorite soap or solution with hot water works wonders. At ANC, we like to use OxiClean. First, bring a small pot of water to boil. Then, using gloves, apply the OxiClean or the solution of your choice directly to the stain gently rubbing it. Let it sit in the hot water for 10-15 minutes, then throw the item directly into the wash. Done again.

Don’t let suborn stains ruin your favorite items. Fight their tough-to-remove ways by using our tips and don’t forget to act fast. As soon as you notice a stain, get to scrubbing. The sooner you remove them, the better!
